Family caregiving

Caring for someone close to you can be unexpected, but it is a role that many Canadians will take on at some point in their lives. Today, more than two million Canadians provide care for a family member or friend.
We interviewed 39 people about their experience of caring for someone with a chronic physical illness. Some people cared for their spouse, a parent, or friend; others cared for a son or daughter. Many were currently caring for this person; others had been bereaved.
