Meet Our Team

The healthexperience.ca team is based at St. Mary’s Hospital Center and McGill University in Montreal. We are a team of health services researchers that aims to contribute to the greater public and professional understanding of health and illness experiences among Canadians.

Susan Law, PhD
Susan is Vice-President of Academic Affairs at St. Mary's Hospital Center and Associate Professor at McGill Family Medicine. She completed her PhD at University of London (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) and has a Masters in Health Administration from the University of Toronto. She lived and worked in Oxford UK for 9 years, where her family physician was Dr Ann McPherson (one of the co-founders of the Healthtalkonline initiative). She is thrilled to have secured a research home for a similar initiative in Canada at St. Mary’s. Susan is the principle investigator for the Canadian Health Experience initiative and is a member of the DIPEx International Board.

Ilja Ormel, MSc
Ilja is the project coordinator and qualitative researcher at St. Mary’s Hospital Center. She has a MSc in public health from the University of London (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine). Ilja has worked for several years for the humanitarian organization Médecins sans frontières with the objective to rebuild health structures for populations in danger. She has a special interest in equity in health, health issues concerning immigrants and developments with regards to the improvement of health and health systems. Ilja is responsible for the module on the experiences of family caregiving for adults with a chronic physical illness. Ilja leads the development of the module of breast cancer in women.
