Advice to Policy Makers – aerik

aerik thinks disability support systems don't reflect the reality of living with chronic illness.

Transcript

Disability systems are really built around a very static definition of disability … but really fail for people with chronic illnesses. When the whole system is premised on being able to prove that you can’t do x, y, and z ever, that’s not how most of us experience chronic illness … There needs to be programs to support people with disabilities, to access the things that they need and the definition of disability really needs to be broadened to include people who are experiencing episodic and chronic disabilities and illnesses. I think that’s a huge piece.
