Ronda
9 years since diagnosis
Age at interview: 52
Ronda was always a healthy active individual. She lives in Nova Scotia with her two children. 9 years ago when she was 42 years old, Rhonda suddenly collapsed at home and went into cardiac arrest. Her son who was 14 at the time called 911 and began CPR, ultimately saving her life. After her collapse Ronda was diagnosed with nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy and implanted with an ICD. While it is very difficult for Ronda to accept what has happened to her she is very grateful to be here and has written a book about her experience. Ronda’s advice to others is to stay involved in your care, ask a lot of questions and focus on the positives.
