Interviewer: Okay so, you start taking the medication and you said it took about six weeks for it to. . .

Six weeks for the hallucinations to finish. I was functional at that point. I would say maybe a week or two in I regained my concentration, regained my ability to sleep but I was still seeing symbols and feeling like a power larger than humanity was communicating with me and directing me in a path to follow.

Interviewer: You mentioned that when you were in the Emergency Department and you were seeing the psychiatrist that it sounded like there was some discussion about whether you could breastfeed while taking this medication. Do you remember that conversation at all or what you asked and what you were told?

I remember being concerned about it. I remember I asked for a second opinion from my midwife and she didn’t want to answer. Her response was that she didn’t want to tell me anything that would make me not take the antipsychotic. So she was going to refrain from talking about any potential impacts of breastfeeding. I was also speaking with a lactation consultant who had a great reference of medications and their implications on breastfeeding children and so between the psychiatrist and the lactation consultant, I felt reassured that I could continue breastfeeding while taking the medication.
