Leah advises paying more attention to the health of mom and baby.

I certainly wished in my experience, that they would have just been more direct with me and kind of treated things more as a treatment for my baby and for me. I wish that I guess, yeah, had been recognized a little more that my postpartum and mental health was really on the decline, because of this breastfeeding. I think the focus was more on the breastfeeding and the baby and the baby not gaining weight, and no one was looking at me or how much I was sleeping or how much I was – and I think that yeah, as healthcare professionals, we need to do better looking at both the mom and the baby and helping them navigate, finding the right balance of what’s right for that duo and their and whatever problems they’re – whatever challenges they’re going through. Yeah, I feel the focus is more on the baby. And, which I mean, we need, but I think there needs to be more, more postpartum care for the mother and their situation and helping them navigate finding the right balance.
Because we just, you know there’s so much going on postpartum, you can’t expect the mother to do all the research and even advocate for herself, to be quite honest. You’re not sleeping, you’re not – your hormones are all over the place, you’re just not in the right mental state to do that on your own. So I think our healthcare professionals need a better job of navigating, of helping mothers navigate through that.
