Lori describes other women living with heart failure as allies.
Transcript
I was just saying that I think women especially should talk to other women with heart failure and their experiences. It’s great to find out their own experiences and you become allies and you become friends, and for me I became friends with a lady who was my roommate and I was able to go home. She couldn’t and I messaged her. I didn’t hear for three weeks so I was scared but then I found out she had gotten an LVAD, and she got the LVAD and I was happy because that was one step closer for her. Then we would talk back and forth sharing our experiences with each other and then all of a sudden I didn’t hear from her again and I was like, oh god, don’t tell me the LVAD weighed her down, because she was really skinny. Then she contacted me and she said, “No, I got my heart transplant” and I was so excited because she had gotten it within like two, three months of us being roommates together and she’s doing wonderful and we still talk. Women need allies and you know what, other women with heart failure can be great just to talk to, just for emotional support, just for family support, but they can also be good to talk to about their experiences with the healthcare system.
