Gaps in Health Care System – Emma

Emma says there is nothing for mental health for moms.

Transcript

There’s nothing in the mental health that I know of, which I find very odd. I hope someday there will be. I’m in school right now actually getting my master’s in counseling psychology, because I would like to have a trauma program for moms. But there’s nothing like that. And I actually was talking with one of the community members, and they were like, that’s in a different place that I’m connected with. And she messaged me and was like, ‘Hey, is there any kind of program like this?’ And I’m like, ‘No, there’s literally nothing’. And she was like, ‘This is wild. Birth trauma is so pervasive, how is it –?’ And I’m like, ‘You’re preaching to the choir, OK.’ There needs to be some kind of services and it’s frustrating that there is nothing. You see all these initiatives and programs and stuff open, but what is there for mental health for moms, aside from this support group that is not heavily funded, you know?
